Cooks are available in all our villas. Some are included in the rental, but most have to be hired. If you would like the cook, just mention it to us at the time of reservations and we will let the manger of your villa know. We can provide you with some sample menus and costs. When you arrive, you can discuss menus with the cook and the manager. On the day you want the meal, she will come to your villa and you will take her to our local grocery store to purchase the groceries. She will then prepare the meal and serve dinner at 6:30 PM. She will also clean up afterwards. Please pay her after each meal for her services (up to 6 people $35 U.S. - 7 to 12 people $50 U.S. + the cost of the groceries). We do not do first night (arrival) dinner, but suggest you try one of the many local restaurants. You can even stop in Playa Del Carmen and pick up groceries on the way to your villa.
We have a small but very good grocery store in Akumal called "Super Chomak". It's open from 7AM to 9PM seven days a week. You can get everything you need there including soft drinks, liquors, dairy products, things for breakfast and lunch, steaks, chicken, shrimp, lobster tails, pastas, produce, deli items, drug store items, etc. The Chomak now serves food from about 11:30 to 7:00 pm. Food items include pizza by the slice or whole pies, rotisserie chicken, French fries, shrimp tacos, fish tacos, hamburgers and hot dogs, onion rings. Prices are reasonable. All alcohol sales stop at 2 pm on Sundays!
In Puerto Aventuras there are two small grocery stores. Cox Hana and Super Akumal.
If you would rather go to a large grocery store then you should stop off in Playa del Carmen on your way down from the Cancun Airport. There is a wonderful, large grocery store called "Chedraui" located on the left of the highway. To get there, turn left at the lights on Avenida Juarez. Take your first left from Juarez and go 2 blocks until you literally run into the car park. It accepts US currency. If you pay with US you will receive change in pesos. Also in Playa del Carmen, right along the main road, is Sam's Club, yes, that's right, Sam Walton's evergrowing footprint has made it south of Cancun. Also, especially for those staying in Akumal and south, Tulum has a very modern supermarkted called Super San Francisco, just as you enter town from the north.
Delivery Services are limited in the area. Leo's Pizza in Chemuyil will deliver pizzas to villas in Akumal and Tankah. Most of the local restaurants will provide take-out, feel free to ask.
Akumal Wines makes it possible to order your wines online and have them delivered to your villa by the day you arrive.
Restaurants
There are some fabulous restaurants in Akumal and most of them are clustered around the entrance. More great restaurants can be found in Puerto Aventuras, Tulum and Playa Del Carmen. Apart from Mexican cuisine, seafood is the specialty of this region, although you can also find Asian, Italian, French and old standbys like TGIF and Burger King. Not all restaurants take credit cards and those that do only accept Visa and MasterCard. All accept US currency. We have listed some of our recommendations.
